Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year!!
South Carolina
Gourd Society
The South Carolina Gourd Society is
educational in nature and accomplishes this by encouraging
and supporting presentations, displays and seminars,
providing educational resources and exhibits. We have
differing levels of creativity for young and old, creating
one-of-a-kind pieces of art that started with the foundation
of a seed, soil, nutrition, water and a burst from the sun.
Representing the South, we are proud to lift from nature’s
own and place the fingerprints of the human soul upon it.

The following was a press release for the
Holiday Open House which was held Wednesday, December 3rd.
Notice the mention of the SC Gourd Society.
"This year’s decorations will include a
gingerbread replica of the South Carolina
Statehouse created by the Mansion’s
Executive Chef Geoffrey D. Sandifer with the
assistance of guest artist McClellan
Douglas.
Other decoration highlights include an
ornament collection made of hand painted
gourds donated by the South Carolina Gourd
Society, poinsettias grown by students at
the Lexington Technology Center, Christmas

Savannah Retreat
Sponsored by: Charlotte Durrence & Friends
In support of: The Georgia Gourd Society &The American Gourd
Society
We would like to invite you to join us at the Gourd
Retreat we sponsor near Savannah, Georgia. It will be held
on March 26-29, 2009, at the New Ebenezer Retreat Center. We
have invited teachers from all over the country to come and
have classes for you. They represent a large number of new
and exciting techniques in the world of gourd art. The
retreat center is a beautiful place in an isolated area
where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the country.
Check out the retreat
center.
We will offer classes this year beginning on Thursday
morning and going through lunch on Sunday. You will need to
register early to get your first choice of classes. Most
classes will be from 3-4 hours and the prices will be listed
on the class descriptions. One Thursday class and one Friday
class will be all day classes. These will be classes taught
by Bonnie Gibson of
Arizona Gourds. Classes and registration forms are
located at the
Savannah Retreat web site.
